Internet Spam That Makes Me Feel Better About Myself As A Person

This might be one of those blog posts that only appeals to other bloggers. Or more specifically other bloggers who haven’t renewed their Akismet spam filter subscription. Nevertheless, a blog’s a blog, I always say. (I’ve never said this. Who would say this?) Internet spam comments are usually pretty transparent: barely intelligible comments completely unrelated to the post in question. Many offer web design or search engine optimization services. Most will probably end up with me accidentally buying a Russian child bride and ending up in federal prison.

But some internet spam is pretty damned sneaky. At the end of the day, I know it’s spam. It still makes almost zero sense in the context of the blog post it’s attached to. But damned if it doesn’t warm my heart.

Here are a few examples of internet spam that actually makes me feel better about myself as a person – with commentary and inspirational posters (designed on Pixteller). Almost makes you want to write some inspirational spam of your own, doesn’t it?

Inspirational Spam: “Can I simply say what a comfort to discover someone who actually knows what they are discussing over the internet. You certainly know how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More people must look at this and understand this side of your story. It’s surprising you are not more popular because you most certainly have the gift.”

Commentary: This was posted on the “10 comments you’ll hear at your 10-year reunion” post. Clearly in response to #2: “I peed there.”

Inspirational Spam: Excellent blog! Do you have any hints for aspiring writers? I’m hoping to start my own blog soon but I’m a little lost on everything. Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any ideas? Thank you!

Commentary: Man, this is like the CIA agent of blog spam. This is a real person! I really want to help this person! Unfortunately I believe this real person is actually a robot, as their name is listed as a series of alien letters and their website is a random string of letters .com.
